COM stands for "community of misfits". It represents my vision of a place where all my friends can hang out and get to know each other. I interact with a lot of marginalized groups, both on the Internet and in my daily life. Most of these groups are organized around a particular identity (autistic, transgender, gay/lesbian, musician, geek, blah, blah, blah). But I would prefer to hang out with all of these groups together, where different identities still are respected but are not the organizing principle. In other words, a community of misfits! For those of you that would prefer to hang out in a more organized environment, there are individual board categories for autistics, queer, transgender, intersex environmentalists, geeks, etc. But anything goes here.
